NSP AWARDS LIST

Genesee Valley Region Awards:

1. Lehman Award - Region Outstanding Instructor. Any patroller can nominate. Letter of recommendation required written to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received prior to August 1.

2. Marcia Cervi Mundrick Award - Region Outstanding OEC Instructor. Any patroller can nominate. Letter of recommendation required written to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received prior to August 1.

3. Stevens Award - Region Outstanding Patroller. Any patroller can nominate. Letter of
recommendation required written to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received prior to August 1.

4. Doyle Award - Region Distinguished Service Award for long term service to NSP in multiple disciplines. Contribution to NSP may be at Patrol, Region, and/or National level. Any patroller can nominate. Letter of recommendation required written to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received prior to August 1.

5. Williams Award - Region award to recognize members for long and exemplary volunteer service outside of NSP. Not necessarily given on an annual basis.

6. Region Merit Star - All National Merit Star candidates are considered for this award. Apply using the National Merit Star application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation
Eastern Division Awards:

EDPAA (Eastern Division Patroller Achievement Award) - Awarded annually to patrollers with many years of experience but no history of leadership positions beyond patrol involvement. Points are given for instructor disciplines,senior achievement, hill chief involvement. Submission by each patrol’s Awards committee to regional advisor by April 1.

National Awards:

All National Outstanding awards result from the Division Outstanding Award winners being forwarded to National by our Division Awards Advisor. All NSP awards require 45 days processing, please keep that in mind when submitting. Only most recent updated applications from the NSP website are acceptable. If you go on to the NSP website, Member services; Guiding Docs; P&P will bring up the forms in Word format. Please forward applications in Word format to the Regional Advisor. Page 1, with signatures, needs to be hand delivered.

1. National Appointments - Apply using the appropriate National Appointment Award Form, submit to Regional review board chair.

a. Leadership Commendation Award (LCA) - for non-Seniors
b. National Appointment - for eligible Seniors

2. Gold Merit Star- National Outstanding Patroller including administrative, and instructor.
Genesee Valley region candidates are selected from the Region Lehman, Mundrick and Stevens award recipients. Apply using the National Merit Star application form.

3. Silver Merit Star - Runner-up to National Outstanding Patroller. Genesee Valley region
candidates are selected from the Region Lehman, Mundrick and Stevens award recipients. Apply using the National Merit Star application form.

4. Purple Merit Star - Individually save or are primarily responsible for saving a life. Apply using the National Merit Star application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation

5. Blue Merit Star - Outstanding or heroic use of ski patrol skills to save a life, but not to the level of the Purple. May be used to recognize those in supporting role of Purple. Also used to recognize leadership role in an unsuccessful life saving effort. Apply using the National Merit Star application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or any member
of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation

6. Green Merit Star - Outstanding, heroic and arduous use of ski patrolling skills that does not meet the life saving extent of a purple merit star. May apply to areas other than a ski area. Apply using the National Merit Star application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation

7. Yellow Merit Star - Awarded for any outstanding act or service to NSPS. Must have an element of National relevance. May be used for supporting role for Green, Blue, and Purple. Apply using the National Merit Star application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or
any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation.

8. Meritorious Service Award - Awarded to active members who have completed extraordinary and outstanding service and leadership as a Region or Division Staff member. Apply using the
National Meritorious Service Award application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor. Submittal must be 45 days prior to presentation.

9. NSP Distinguished Service Award (DSA) - Given for outstanding achievement. May be given to a non-Patroller. Apply using the National DSA application form. Submit to the Region Awards Advisor or Regional Review Board Chair Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation.

10. Patroller Cross Award - Awarded to a patroller who receives serious injuries while on duty.
Patrollers killed in the line of duty are awarded the DSA. Serious injury is defined as an injury
requiring physician care over a long period of time, surgery, extended rehabilitation and/or lost
work time. It is further described as an injury that prevented the member from returning to their
normal patrolling duties for the balance of the ski season. Contact the Region Awards Advisor

11. National Outstanding - Alpine Patroller, Patroller, Young Adult Patroller, Patrol Representative; Large Alpine Patrol, Small Alpine Patrol, Nordic Patrol. Awards given in each category annually. Contact the Region Awards Advisor

12. Avalanche Award - Contributions to the avalanche program. Must have National significance. Contact the Region Awards Advisor

13. Unit Citation - given for extraordinary activity or accomplishment. Contact the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation.

14. National Certificate of Appreciation – (For "......" ) Contact the Region Awards Advisor
or any member of the Region Awards Committee. Submittals must be received 45 days prior to presentation.

15. Service Recognition Awards - (10 years or more in increments of 5 year intervals.) Ordered by Patrol Director or Local Patrol Awards Committee.

16. Honorary and Special Recognition Awards - For Members and non-Members given at the discretion of the Patrol Administrator, or Region Director. May be an NSP Award or Local or
Region. Contact the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee.

17. Angel Pins - Primarily for spouses, but may be given to others for recognition of support to NSP or local patrolling efforts. Requested by Patrol Administrator. Contact the Region Awards Advisor or any member of the Region Awards Committee.
